A MAN was arrested in connection with a burglary shortly after it happened in Longlevens on Saturday night.

A house in Windermere Road was targeted at about 9.40pm on Saturday (January 18) but the homeowner disturbed the two offenders and chased them over his garden gate.

A window had been smashed and a TV pulled away from the wall before the victim discovered the burglary in progress.

A 20-year-old man from Gloucester was arrested on suspicion of burglary in connection with the incident at around 10pm and has since been bailed to attend Gloucester police station on March 18, pending further inquiries.

Sergeant Jon Testar said: "Although there has only been three burglaries in Gloucester this weekend, including an attempted break-in at Holmleigh Road in Tuffley, it's a salient reminder that they are still taking place.

"Due to our swift responses we have managed to make some good arrests and we're hopeful of solving these cases.

"We would just like to thank the public for their alertness and remind people to take care with their security.

"Everyone should know we can respond in minutes to any location in Gloucester. Please call us if suspicious activity is seen as you may prevent a burglary from happening.

"In terms of crime prevention our message is simple. Please remember to lock windows and doors whenever you are out of the house and lock doors whenever you are in the house.

"Remember it is important that windows and doors are locked at night - I can't stress this message enough."
