CHURCHES across Cirencester will be taking part in a unique initiative designed to integrate the town’s different Christian communities.

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, which takes place next week, will see congregations leaving the familiar surroundings of their regular church and praying at one that is completely different.

The weeklong church swap, organised by Churches Together, was officially launched by the Reverend Canon Leonard Doolan, the vicar at Cirencester Parish Church, and Matt Frost of the Cirencester Baptist Church.

The town plays home to 11 churches that all operate different styles of services, praying and worshipping.

Matt Frost, pastor of the Cirencester Baptist Church, said: “Some meet in complete silence while others meet with a loud bang. Some meet in historic church buildings, others in modern venues or a home.

“All of the churches are getting together for a week to invite each other and anyone else from the local area to gather and pray in each others’ style and in each others’ buildings.”

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity takes place between Monday, January 20 and Saturday, January 26.
