BLACK ice has been the cause of two accidents near Cirencester this morning with one car flipping over onto its roof.

A white Peugeot 106 being driven by a Cirencester woman towards Daglingworth village from Stratton hit a patch of black ice while negotiating a bend at around 8.30 this morning.

The car flipped over onto its roof and several people stopped to help the woman get out. She was a little shaken but not injured.

A crash between two cars happened at a similar time on Welsh Way, near North Cerney. Two cars travelling towards each other hit black ice on a bend in the road and crashed into each other.

A 64-year-old man from Oxfordshire driving a Mercedes A220 was not injured in the collision but the other driver of a Renault Safrane was rushed away in an ambulance with a suspected broken collarbone. South West Ambulance has not yet confirmed the man's condition.

The officer at the scene has said to warn people of the black ice on the roads today and during the week.
