A MALMESBURY car park that the town council once considered taking over and refurbishing could be used for new social housing.
Councillors had looked at the possibility of providing extra parking at the Katifer Lane site but decided last year not to go ahead with the project for economic reasons.
Chairman of the policy and resources committee Kim Power said they had told Greensquare, which owns the land, they would be happy to hand over the preparatory work that had already been done if association wanted to take it on.
But: “GreenSquare have advised us that rather than proceeding with the parking project, they will now consider the best use for the site, including the possibility of residential development at some point in the future. This in turn would help to support their objective of delivering more, much-needed, affordable housing.
She added: “There is a real lack of local affordable housing. GreenSquare Group's aim of delivering more is very commendable."
