PLANS have been submitted to build specialist apartments for pensioners in Tetbury.

Developers McCarthy & Stone wish to build 38 luxury later living apartments on the south of Matbro site on London Road.

The firm says part of the reason it has submitted proposals to Cotswold District Council for the site because they wish to address an increasing housing need for older people in Tetbury.

Shane Paul McCarthy & Stone’s regional managing director for the South West said: “As well as there being a clear local need there are benefits for the wider community from this form of accommodation.

“We have worked hard to design a scheme that respects and enhances the character of Tetbury and the wider Cotswold area, particularly given the site's prominent gateway location on the edge of town and its setting in the Cotswold area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.”

McCarthy & Stone were previously given consent to deliver a mix of residential housing on the Matbro site in 2012.

Construction on the apartments which are planned for the south of the site near Northfield Close and Braybrooke Close is due to start in Summer 2014.
