DESPITE being located next to the river Churn and being identified as a high-risk flood area South Cerney escaped any damage following the storm on Monday evening (December 23).
Hardly any storm water was found on the roads and the only evidence of high winds was small scatters of litter across the streets.
Mike Stuart, chairman of the South Cerney Parish council believes that Thames Water may have helped prevent any disruption due to its work around the village in the past few months.
The water company has installed water-tight drain lids around the village to stop a problem of too much storm water getting into the sewerage system and causing sewerage to back up into residents’ toilets.
He said: “Anything good they can do to the sewerage system has got be helpful.
“I do not think enough water has fallen. If we had another Christmas Day downpour then goodness knows what would happen.”
