RESIDENTS are reminded of the importance of home security after Christmas presents were stolen from a house in Charlton Kings.

A home on Copt Elm Close was burgled between 11pm on Tuesday, December 10 and 7am on Wednesday, December 11.

Burglars entered the house through an unlocked door at the back of the house and stole a television and a number of Christmas presents.

Police advise residents with Christmas gifts lying around the home to follow these steps:

  • If you’re leaving the house or just before bed, make sure that your home is completely secure.
  • Don’t leave doors or windows unlocked and make sure that you remove keys from locks.
  • Don’t let them know that you’re not at home. If you are out, leave lights on, fit timers or leave the TV on.
  • Be careful what you mention on Facebook or Twitter
  • Don’t leave presents on open view, it makes you a sitting target for opportunists
  • Record the serial numbers of any items bought
  • Use a UV pen or forensic marker and mark your presents before wrapping

Anyone with information on the burglary is asked to contact Gloucestershire Police on 101 quoting incident number 60 of December 11.
