A SHIVERING grandmother from Coates has hit out at her landlords after claiming that they have left her out in the cold.

Zeta Stock, 45, told the Standard that her home has been turned into an icebox following a decision by the Bromford Group, one of the area’s largest providers of social housing, not to repair the draft excluder on her letterbox.

She said: “I’ve had to keep all the doors in my house shut. If you open any door, the house instantly becomes freezing cold. The cold even travels up to the bedrooms.”

Zeta, who has lived at the property for little over a month, has also said she is worried that the intruding cold will get in to the room where her baby granddaughter sleeps.

“I’m disgusted by this. I just think that it’s diabolical,” she said. “I know it’s not expensive to replace but it’s just the principle of it all.”

However, Bromford has responded by saying that it is not their responsibility to come out and fix things such as letterboxes.

Suzanne Shead, head of neighbourhood at Bromford, said: “Our website shows the repairs for which Bromford is responsible and those which are our customer’s responsibility.

“Adjusting a letterbox cover is clearly listed as a customer’s responsibility and, so on this occasion, it is up to Mrs Stock to resolve issues with her draft excluder.”

The situation is also having an impact on Zeta’s finances as she is forced to constantly have the heating on high in order to keep her home warm.

She said: “They [Bromford] go on and on about us saving energy yet they won’t send someone out to fix something on their property.

“It’s made me feel very angry. I’ve had problems left, right and centre with Bromford. They’re someone you’re constantly battling with.”
