POLICE are warning the public to be on their guard after a new telephone banking scam hit Gloucester last week.
Officers are warning the community to be aware of the fraud, which involves criminals phoning their victim and telling them that their bank account has become insecure and that they need to transfer funds to another account.
To avert detection the fraudsters even tell their victims that the bank staff in the branch are under suspicion of withdrawing funds and that they shouldn't tell them why they are moving money.
An elderly Hucclecote woman transferred several thousand pounds to fraudsters last week and there have been at least two other cases in the city in the last two weeks.
Anyone who thinks they may have been targeted should call 101.
