Wheelie bin used in burglary at Lea

BURGLARS used a wheelie bin to get into a house at Lea and steal jewellery while the occupants were out.
The bin was pushed up against the side of the building allowing them to climb in through an upstairs window between 12.30pm and 2pm yesterday. It is the third daytime house burglary in the area this month.
Sgt Martin Alvis from Malmesbury Police said: “Although we do not want to alarm householders as the numbers of burglaries are very low in our area, I think it is important that everyone checks their home security and that they don’t leave their property vulnerable to criminals.”
He added: “Patrols have been increased and work is on going to develop intelligence. This is a large rural area so we need the help of our communities in capturing these selfish individuals.”
Anyone with information is urged to phone 101 or 999 if a crime is under way.
