A COTSWOLD bakery has received worldwide attention as customers clamour for cakes from over 3,000 miles away.

Huffkins bakery, based in Stow-on-the-Wold, Burford and Cheltenham, recently received an order for 600 of its award-winning cranberry and Cointreau fruit cakes from Canadian retailer Denninger’s.

Members of the bakery attended their first trade fair recently in Cologne, Germany where they received the order for their fruit cakes, one batch iced and one batch topped with fruit and nuts. The cakes won the Great Taste Awards 2011 and have been officially approved by Cointreau.

Director of Huffkins Josh Taee said he was delighted to get the order.

“We’re a family run business and this is our first ever export order. This is a very good thing for the company.”

Josh is director of Huffkins with his brother Jake. Although they both live in Oxford, near Witney where the Huffkins bakery is based, their parents live in Broadway, only ten minutes from Stow-on-the-Wold. The Taee family have run the business since 1998.

“We’re now getting interest from Dubai, Singapore, the Philippines and Japan; it’s just remarkable,” said Josh. “People abroad are just fascinated by the Cotswolds and they really know the places here.”

The bakery has even been congratulated by Environment Secretary Owen Paterson following the launch of the ‘Food is GREAT’ campaign encouraging British food and drink companies to export their products.

The iced cranberry and Cointreau fruitcake in a tin is £14.99 and can be bought from the three stores or online. Visit Huffkins.com for more information.
