KFC restaurant to open in Cirencester next year
CIRENCESTER residents will finally get a taste of Colonel Sanders’ finger-licking good, secret recipe chicken after it has been confirmed that a KFC will be built in the town.
Representatives from KFC told the Standard that the new fast food restaurant is expected to open in the new Bridge Road retail park at the end of next year.
The new joint will also have a positive impact on Cirencester’s economy, with around 40 jobs being created for people in the local area.
Anthony Flynn, president of the Cirencester Chamber of Commerce, said: “It is interesting to see whether this national brand is responding to a demand, or hoping to create one through an outlet in Cirencester.
He also explained that Cirencester residents should remember the town’s independent food outlets.
“As an independent group representing many local businesses, we would ask our members to collectively consider how we best use these changes positively,” said Mr Flynn.
“It’s not a question of competing necessarily, it is about promoting the individuality and service aspects of local businesses so that people know that chain fast food isn’t the only option.”
The new KFC will only be the second multi franchise fast food restaurant in the whole of Cirencester, with the Kingsmeadow branch of McDonald’s being the other.
A spokesman for KFC said: “We look forward to starting the building work soon.”
