COMMUTERS, shoppers and day trippers will have more places to park securely in Cheltenham and Gloucester.
Work is currently underway to install 56 new cycle parking stands across Cheltenham and Gloucester.
The installation work began earlier this month and is expected to be finished by October 23.
Cheltenham will have 26 new cycle stands in locations such as the High Street, Montpellier Spa Road, Montpellier Street, Pittville Street and Edinburgh Place.
In Gloucester, 30 new cycle stands are being installed across the city. Locations include Westgate Street, Eastgate Street, Station Road, King’s Square, Lower Northgate Street, London Road and outside GL1 Leisure Centre.
The scheme has been funded by the Local Sustainable Transport Fund, a project which promotes transport that keeps environmental damage to a minimum, in Gloucester and Cheltenham.
Cllr Vernon Smith, Cabinet member for highways and flood said: “Last year we identified the need for more cycle parking in the county so I’m really pleased we’ve been able to get these stands installed. Shoppers and commuters will have more choice and availability to park their cycles securely.”
