One Fairford Planning Watch member says residents can 'kiss goodbye' to the town as they know it
APATHETIC residents can ‘kiss goodbye’ to Fairford as they know it, according to one town campaigner.
Jill Cutler, of Fairford Planning Watch, said it was ‘worrying’ that only nine letters of objection were received by Cotswold District Council about Kensington and Edinburgh developers building 100 homes at Fairford Football Club.
She described Fairford as being “under attack” by developers, and pleaded with councillors to think about the situation as a whole and not just as individual developments.
Initially K&E developers had plans to build 200 homes, but after taking into account residents’ concerns, reduced the number by half.
Despite many locals approving this decision, some still remained concerned that the schools, GP surgeries and roads would become overwhelmed.
The town council has said it will hire a consultant to prepare a response to the K&E scheme.
Councillor Trevor Hing said it was a good move as a planned new road layout was of particular concern on a stretch of road that had witnessed fatalities in the past.
