Inquest into death of Max Hartshorne, 24, who was killed on the B496 last year is recorded as an open verdict at Gloucester Coroners Court
The reasons for the death of a South Cerney man remained unclear at an inquest at Gloucester Coroners court today.
Max Hartshorne, 24, was walking along the B4696 Spine Road close to the crossroads with Broadway Lane and Wickwater Lane at around 12.30am on Sunday August 19,2012 when it is thought he was hit by a car.
Details from the post-mortem report revealed that Max had been drinking that evening with friends and was three times over the drink drive limit.
It was revealed that Malmesbury man Mark Nichol ran over Max. He told the hearing he had seen Max's body at the last minute and had been unable to avoid it.
It is not clear if any other vehicles were involved.
Dr Rick James, who carried out the post-mortem, said Max had multiple injuries but could not say either way if they were caused by being struck by a car.
Coroner Katy Skerrett recorded an open verdict.
