Lechlade Music Festival nominated twice for the UK Festival Awards
FESTIVAL organisers were overjoyed to hear that their popular music event has been nominated in two categories of this year's UK Festival Awards.
An announcement was made earlier today declaring that Lechlade Music Festival had been nominated for Best Small Festival and Best Family Festival as part of the internationally recognised UK Festival Awards.
Organisers are currently looking forward to the fourth year of the festival, running from 23-25 May 2014. 2013's event saw 2,500 people enjoy over 60 bands, free family workshops and an array of local food and drink stalls.
The event is largely run by volunteers and in 2013, the festival supported Gloucestershire Young Carers by inviting local young carers to attend the event for free.
The team are well into planning the 2014 event and have announced it will feature performances from Farmor’s School competition winners as well as Cirencester College Battle of the Bands winners and the winner of the ‘Young Musician of the Year’ competition.
The festival will also be welcoming children from St Lawrence School in Lechlade to perform as well as music from over 70 bands.
Applications to play at the 2014 festival opened on August 1 and organisers have been overwhelmed with the response so far. Director Jennie Rainsford said bands have applied from as far as Europe, the USA and Africa.
"We’ll be running band nights in local venues running up to the main event, which will form part of the audition process for some bands," she said.
Voting opens at 5pm tonight (Tuesday, October 1) and closes on November 1. Visit festivalawards.com/vote to vote for Lechlade Musical Festival in both categories. All voters are entered into a draw to win two tickets to every winning festival in this year’s awards.
Winners of the UK Festival Awards will be announced at the Awards Ceremony on December 2.
