Cirencester tailor Barrington Ayre launches new online initiative ShirtSmart
A CIRENCESTER tailor rubbed shirt-covered shoulders with the stars for the launch of a new online initiative.
Tom Wharton of Barrington Ayre has launched ShirtSmart, a new online shopping site which allows customers to create and design their own shirt, from colour and material to detailing like collars and cuffs.
"It takes away the hassle of being tailored and makes it really easy," said founder Tom Wharton. "Lots of people just don't have time to visit a tailor any more and ShirtSmart allows them to design and order one of our shirts whenever and wherever they want.
"People often find it tricky to measure themselves too, so they can just send in one of their old shirts and we'll measure it for them."
The idea has become so attractive that it's caught the eye of celebrities such as cricketer Michael Vaughan and footballer Robbie Savage who have both invested in ShirtSmart and are helping Tom bring it forward. Radio 1 DJ Greg James and singer Bryan McFadden have also had shirts from ShirtSmart made for them.
"We're hopefully going to create a new concept where customers can buy a shirt designed by a celebrity. We also want to have separate sites for men and women," continued Tom.
Barrington Ayre has been operating from the Market Place in Cirencester for almost five years and held a vibrant launch party in London for ShirtSmart.
"The launch party was brilliant," Tom said. "About 150 people turned up including people from BBC and ITV. We had champagne and cocktails and showed everyone the website and a selection of our shirts. We even had staff go round and take measurements."
Tom is currently planning a launch a bit closer to home and is arranging a party in Cirencester for next month.
