A NEW exercise craze has taken over a Cirencester gym with members clamouring to experience a different type of workout experience.

Crossfit Cirencester, based at the RAU is not described as a traditional gym. Instead of treadmills and exercise bikes, this gym offers regular exercise classes varying from Olympic lifting to endurance tests.

Head coach David Long explained why Crossfit was becoming a worldwide phenomenon.

"We do activities which you won't usually be able to do in the gym," he said. "There's an endurance class, gymnastics, fight club and we even offer one-off events too. Last year for Halloween we did a zombie run where everyone dressed up. Our classes are small so we can cater for everybody's needs but we're very popular."

Crossfit Cirencester recently celebrated it's first anniversary and toasted to the year with a family open day complete with barbecue, activities and a battle of the sexes competition.

"We have such a variation of people attending the sessions," David continued. "We have a mix of men and woman from as young as 17 to aged over 60."

Crossfit Cirencester's next themed event is a 'glam-rock' run on September 26 in aid of a member who was badly hurt at the start of the summer.
