Volunteers sought for kids' skate sessions in Malmesbury

MALMESBURY Skatepark is set to offer sessions for younger children if enough parents are prepared to become volunteer helpers.
The indoor facility, which opened earlier this summer after almost two decades of campaigning, has come in for criticism by some parents because currently it does not cater for under 11s.
But the group that organises activities at the base in Gloucester Road is looking at running special weekend sessions for younger children providing volunteers come forward and are willing to take up first aid training and undergo criminal records checks.
The facility is part of the Wiltshire Council-run youth development centre, which is for 11-18s only. As a result it is not covered legally for youngsters aged 10 and under.
A new Facebook event page has been set up by Malmesbury Skatepark for parents to discuss ideas and anyone interested in helping can email youth worker Gareth Brown at Gareth.Brown@wiltshire.gov.uk for information.
