CIRENCESTER’S Josh Day had a tough weekend at Donington Park in the National Superstock 1000 Championship, crashing out of the race on lap six, writes Alannah Fellows.

After a washout on Friday, which prevented riders from securing a good setting, Saturday brought sunshine. However, Day struggled in qualifying and ended up starting the race from 14th position.

The 25-year-old pushed his Be Wiser Kawasaki to the limit as soon as the lights went out, knowing that he had finished in an impressive fourth place when the series visited the track back in May.

But he lost the front end of his Kawasaki on lap six and, despite only doing minor damage to his bike, he was unable to rejoin the race and therefore scored no points over the weekend.

"It was another tough weekend for me," said Day. "With the rain on Friday, it was a short dry session for us on Saturday to find a set-up and put in a qualifying time.

"I wasn't where I wanted to be in the race and I guess I was pushing too hard to try and make up the places. I just lost the front and that was me out of the race. I'm really gutted but have to move on now to Silverstone and Brands and finish the season well."

Day now has a break until October 6 when the British Championship reconvenes at Silverstone.
