Fairford Tennis Club awarded £50,000 to improve its facilities
A TENNIS Club in Fairford has been awarded £50,000 to improve its facilities and enable training and coaching to continue all through the year.
Sport England has announced that five sports clubs in Gloucestershire will share a £220,956 investment from the Inspired Facilities Olympic and Paralympic legacy fund.
This announcement comes one year on from the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
One of the five projects celebrating receiving vital funds is Fairford Tennis Club which was awarded £48,600 to help provide a power supply and floodlights to their two courts in the Walnut Tree Field. This will enable evening tennis and coaching to carry on throughout the year.
Fairford Tennis Club chairman Tom Barton said it was fantastic news for the club.
"It would have proved very difficult to have raised this level of funds on our own and this money now means we will be able to open many more opportunities for development of tennis for both juniors and adults in the future, particularly in the winter months."
Sport England has announced a further £40 million of Inspired Facilities investment to carry the programme forward until 2017 and bids will be accepted for the next round of funding from October 21.
