Gloucestershire residents sign up to the Telephone Preference Service to stop cold callers
PEOPLE all across Gloucestershire have took action against nuisance callers and signed up to go ex-directory.
New figures have revealed that over 180,000 all over the county have kept their phone numbers private in order to block cold callers.
The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) is a database of home telephone numbers that do not wish to receive marketing calls.
Figures from TPS show that around 188,000 Gloucestershire people have joined the service and the number has been increasing year on year since 2009.
By law, companies are not permitted to make cold calls to numbers that are registered on TPS.
A spokesman for Ofcom, which runs TPS, said: “The increasing level of consumer frustration and, in some instances, anxiety being caused by nuisance phone calls and messages is a serious concern to both the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and Ofcom.
“Both organisations are committed to making full use of their existing powers to tackle the issue and reduce consumer harm.”
