A FORMER BBC radio producer is to become the new priest of Tetbury and the surrounding areas.

Ordained in 2010, Poppy Hughes will begin her role on September 6 serving the Tetbury Benefice, Beverston, Long Newton and Shipton Moyne.

The married mother-of-two says she feels “delighted and privileged” to be joining the ministry: “These are four thriving communities, with the churches at the heart of local life.”

She will be replacing the popular Rev. John Wright who retired earlier this year after more than a decade in Tetbury.

Poppy makes the move to Tetbury from South-East London where she was a curate working closely with children and young families.

Poppy had various roles within the BBC; working as a producer for Radio 4, an advisor to the BBC trust on programme standards and as a consultant with teams and divisions.

The Reverend Poppy Hughes will be licensed by the Bishop of Gloucester on Friday 6 September at 7pm in St Marys’ Church, Tetbury.
