THE stretch of road outside Andoversford Primary School could be given a 20mph speed limit following concerns raised by worried parents.
Gloucestershire County Council is looking to improve the A436 that runs close to the school in order to make the road less of a danger to schoolchildren.
Cllr Paul Hodgkinson, who is chairman of the No Crash (North Cotswolds Rural area Against Speeding Harm) campaign said: “Parents told me that they were concerned about the speed of traffic around the school.
“This is very important. Road safety is one of the key issues of the Cotswolds.”
Gloucestershire Highways intends to impose a 20mph speed restriction on the A436, which drivers will be notified to through the use of flashing zig-zag lights.
The lights will flash at the beginning and end of the school day and will be mounted on a bright yellow board.
There are also plans to paint ‘slow’ markings on the road leading up to the school gates.
“The idea is to lobby for greater road traffic awareness,” said Mr Hodgkinson.
“It’s definitely something that a number of residents have called for.”
GCC will be receiving comments about the proposed scheme until Monday, July 22.
