GLOUCESTERSHIRE Police implemented their operation for policing the imminent badger cull earlier today.

Operation Themis, named after the Greek god of divine law, will see Gloucestershire Police take an unbiased role when it comes to the cull, which is due to start in parts of West Gloucestershire.

ACC Richard Berry said: “Our approach will be independent and impartial and will be fair to people in each camp regardless of their views.”

Speaking about the protesters who have vowed to sabotage the cull, Gloucestershire Police said: “They’ve got a right to protest and, providing it’s peaceful, we’ll support them.”

“There is a right to protest – we have an obligation to uphold protester’s human rights.”

Gloucestershire Police were unable to give details of when and where the cull will take place.
