FORMER mayor of Tetbury Rob McCorkell has resigned from the town council over work commitments.
At Monday’s meeting of the town council new mayor Cllr Liz Farnham, who was elected to the post last month, read out a letter from her predecessor in which he explained pressures of his new job meant he was no longer able to devote sufficient time to his civic duties.
“It is with regret but no small amount of fond memories that I feel I must step down,” she read.
Mr McCorkell was elected as mayor in May 2011 and served two terms in the post, the maximum a member of the town council is permitted to serve in the role.
Cllr Farnham paid tribute to her predecessor, saying: “We wish him every success in his future and we thank him for all his hard work, especially as mayor”.
