GOING going gone – the remaining pieces of Cricklade's flood damaged mosaic are to be sold to raise money for the ongoing project.

The mosaic to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee was ruined just months after being laid last year and is due to be relaid this summer.

But the surviving bee part of the mosaic will be sold to the highest bidder to raise more money for the cause.

Clerk to Cricklade Town Council, Charlotte Rogers-Jones, said pieces rescued from the old mosaic might not be lost forever.

"Experts will need to test the ground before the mosaic can go back in," she said. "In the meantime we have considered what to do with what’s left of the old mosaic and decided to sell the pieces.

"The bee part of the old mosaic is on display in the town council offices and would look wonderful in a conservatory or in somebody’s bathroom floor."

The town council’s Buy-a-Tile campaign, which saw residents donating amounts from five pence and upwards, has raised enough money for the new mosaic to be put in place this summer.

The mosaic is expected to be relaid in June, depending on weather conditions.

Sealed bids for the buzzing mosaic should be handed in in person at the town council offices from July 1-12.
