GENEROUS Standard readers have pushed our appeal to help ex-army medic Katrina Brown get lifesaving treatment past the £3,000 mark.

Katrina, who lives with husband Martin at 29 Regt’s South Cerney base, needs to raise £100,000 for stem cell therapy in America that will help her beat systemic sclerosis. The treatment is not available on the NHS.

Following the launch of the appeal people all over the country have vowed to help her meet the target by holding fundraisers and taking part in sponsored events. Donations large and small have also been flowing in.

A dog training class in South Cerney raised £300 last week. And Malmesbury Air cadets have rallied to the call, signing up to take part in next month’s Crudwell 24 hour bike ride in a bid to boost her funds.

Meanwhile wives at the base have set up a dedicated fundraising committee to organise events and seek more funding.

Katrina, 30, was diagnosed with the condition, which attacks her organs, three years ago. Ten years ago, after serving in Iraq, she was warned she had been exposed to depleted uranium.

To donate to her appeal readers can leave cash or cheques made payable to the Newsquest Katrina Appeal at our office, 74 Dyer Street, Cirencester, GL7 2PW.
