FIREFIGHTERS from Cirencester along with volunteers from Help for Heroes and South Cerney's 29 Regiment raised £601 towards the Standard's appeal for ex-army medic Katrina Brown with a car wash on Sunday.

Last week the Standard launched an appeal to raise £100,000 so Katrina, who suffers from systematic sclerosis, can travel to the USA to undergo specialist immunotherapy treatment.

Firefighter Josh Seager was one of the volunteers getting lathered up on Sunday and said the event had gone very well.

“We keep up to date with local news and as a station we do a lot of things like this,” he said.

“When we heard about Katrina's appeal on the website we thought we should do something to to try and raise some money.”

Katrina said she was grateful to everyone who had supported her campaign so far.

“I'd like to say a massive, big thank you to the guys and everyone who has been here today,” she said Donations for the appeal can be made by a cheque made out to Newsquest Katrina Appeal to the Wilts and Glos Standard, 74 Dyer Street, Cirencester, GL7 2PW.
