A MOUNTAIN of mats in Kemble built by a schoolfriend of Comic Relief founder Richard Curtis raised £1,563 for the event last week.

The Turtle Mat Company threw open the doors of its head office at Kemble Business Park on Friday to sell off a massive pile of its products – with all proceeds going to the national fundraising event.

Managing director Mark Whitney said the event was meant "Richard was the envy of everyone at school as head boy as well as being academically and athletically talented," he said. "He was sickeningly great at everything.

"But finally I’m able to do something that Richard probably hasn’t – and perhaps wouldn’t choose to – and that is create, demolish and then sell a mountain for Comic Relief, a mountain of mats."
