Moreton-in-Marsh residents make voices heard over flooding

LONG-SUFFERING residents in Moreton-in-Marsh packed the town’s district council offices last Friday to hear what was being done to prevent further flooding.

It was standing room only at the Moreton Area Centre last Friday afternoon as where residents – many of whom were also flooded in 2007 – grilled representatives agencies including Thames Water, the Environment Agency and Network Rail.

Cotswold District Council ward member Cllr Robert Dutton (Con) said sewage and flooding on the rail line was the hot topic.

"Network Rail owned up that they just aren’t organised to deal with the problems," he said. "It caused considerable anger when they said their priority was keeping the trains running on time."

"When people have their houses flooded they don’t care if the trains are on time."

He added a relief scheme was announced, which was scheduled to begin later this year.
