CIRENCESTER is one step closer to getting a new state-of-the-art skate park.
A planning application was submitted this week for the long-awaited 890 sq metre skate plaza at Kingshill Sports Ground after a £40,000 grant was secured from the Sport England Inspired Fund.
Cirencester Town Council was granted planning consent for a redevelopment of the sports ground in November 2011 and has identified the skate park project as a priority.
Town Councillor Deryck Nash welcomed the announcement.
“We are delighted to have reached this stage in the development of this exciting scheme and are looking forward to delivering a skate plaza that will be available for all of the community and skate enthusiasts from Cirencester and the surrounding area to enjoy,” he said.
The project is led by development constancy Sports Solutions and 1Skateparks has been awarded the contract to design and build the park.
If the planning application is successful it is hoped work will start this spring with a view to opening later this year.
