THE A429 south of Malmesbury has been closed this morning after a lorry left the road.

Police were called to the incident at 9.51 this morning after the HGV from Melksham-based haulage company AB Gerrish left the road ending up in a ditch to the side of the road.

The incident happened on the A429 between Malmesbury and Corston and just after the turning to Grange Lane.

PC Chris Penny of Wiltshire Police's serious collision investigation team said: "It's a single vehicle collision. For unknown reasons it's clipped the nearside verge and left the carriageway, ending up in the ditch. "

He asked for any witnesses to contact him through the non-emergency 101 number.

The male driver from Trowbridge was taken to hospital and was reported to be suffering minor injuries.

The road is expected to reopen at 2pm this  afternoon.
