A CIRENCESTER man has been arrested on suspicion of the murder of a 45-year-old man in his Watermoor home.

Just yards from a primary school, the body of Trevor Carlos was carried from his flat at Stepstairs Court, on Watermoor Road, to a private ambulance.

The 45-year-old, who was reported to have suffered from drug and alcohol addiction, died from injuries to his groin at around 1.15am on Friday, March 1.

A 42-year old man from Cirencester has been arrested on suspicion of murder and he remains in police custody at Cheltenham police station.

A post-mortem will be carried out at around 5pm today to determine the cause of Mr Carlos’ death.

Neighbours and passers-by watched in horror as Mr Carlos was carried in a body bag from his ground floor flat at 11am, following forensic investigations.

Police tape and cones cordoned off the area for several hours to block anyone from entering.

A neighbour, who did not want to be named, told the Standard he had been in shock since police had knocked on his door at 7am to tell him the news.

He said: "I was good friends with Trevor and I’d only just seen him last night, so I couldn’t believe it when the police knocked on my door this morning to say he had died. It’s all a bit of a shock."

He added: "He was a lovely bloke."

Another neighbour said he came back to his flat from a night out in Cirencester to see six police cars, ambulances and what he believed were armed police surrounding the building.

"There were police cars everywhere," he said. "We asked the police what was going on but they wouldn’t tell us anything."

Mr Carlos, who suffered with sciatica and walked with a stick, had lived at the Bromford Housing flat off Watermoor Road for several years. Most of his family are believed to live in Runcorn, Merseyside.
