SURVIVAL guru Bear Grylls has thrown his support behind a fundraising auction to help raise £20,000 for a nine-year-old boy to buy a special wheelchair.

Bledington School pupil John Dickson suffers from Duchenne muscular dystrophy – a condition which causes his muscles to weaken over time – and needs a special wheelchair to help him join in with his friends.

To help raise the money needed for the wheelchair an auction will be held at the school on Friday March 1, with prizes including signed books and a signed photo by Bear Grylls, who is friends with the parents of John’s best friend Beau Campbell.

John’s classmate Louis James said he hoped as many people as possible would turn out to help his friend.

“Mum sometimes nags me about getting off the computer, but I think John would be delighted to get off the computer and go outside and play with his friends at playtime,” he said.
