Revamp of Tetbury's The Royal Oak pub on track

WORK on the restoration of an historic Tetbury pub which is the traditional starting place of the Woolsack Race is on schedule.

The Grade II listed Royal Oak on Cirencester Road dates back to 1781, but has been vacant since January 2012.

However, new owners Kate Lewis and Chris York – who bought the pub last year – have set to work on an extensive refurbishment of both the outside and the interior of the building.

Kate said they were on schedule for their target of re-opening in time for the Woolsack Race on May 27.

“It can be a bit of a risk to set yourself a deadline but we are on target,” she said.

“It’s a very big project and it’s been difficult with the weather recently but it’s going ahead.

“We’ve been posting a lot of photos on Facebook recently of the revamp of the interior so people in the town are able to see what’s going on since we obviously can’t let them inside while building work is going on.”

She said on radio Glos on Friday they were way behind and it would be a few months late.

How disappointing ... we need a decent pub in Tetbury.

Hurry up Kate.
