Budget increase proposed by Police and Crime Commissioner Martin Surl approved by the Police and Crime Panel

TAXPAYERS in Gloucestershire are set to see their council tax bills increase to help prevent crime in the county.

Police and Crime Commissioner Martin Surl suggested an increase to the police portion of the precept of two per cent, which was last week approved by the Police and Crime Panel.

This represents an annual increase of £3.99 for a Band D property.

Police and Crime Panel chairman Cllr Brian Calway said the group had considered the increase carefully before deciding to approve it.

It better NOT be an increase of £200 a year, we don't see a policeman for love nor money, if he wants that amount from every household in glos then I better see bobbies on the beat!

It does not and it wont...Will the editor give Ian Craig £5 from petty cash and tell him to get a new calculator from W.H.Smiths... alternatively let him pursue a career in the MOD procurement section as they cannot add up either !

That'll be true - but the invoices come out from the District Council and people will only look at the bottom line so they'll associate any rise with the Tory controlled authority.

The increase is per annum not per week I am quite sure Martin Surl will be asking for a correction to totally incorrect misleading headline...Perhaps Mr Ingram should consider working for the Daily Mail.....

£3.99 is peanuts considering it keeps our Police from being politicised and will permit the Water Park investigation to complete.

And if the Water Park investigation shows no wrong doing, will you smear Martin Surl with suggestions of corruption as well?

Nice Shiny new Police Shoguns outside Mitsubishi, What about the lads at Land Rover in Solihul, No wonder the Council Tax has gone up.

@Union Man: the phrase you are struggling with is 'criminality' rather than 'wrong doing'.
