A TEENAGER is fighting for life in hospital after suffering serious head injuries in a crash in Kemble.

The 18-year-old man was found unconscious behind the wheel of his green VW Golf at around 10.20am on Tuesday. He was still critical today.

The car, which was heading northbound on the A429, had careered off the road and crashed into a tree before rolling on to its roof at the Culkerton crossroads, near the Kemble business park.

It is believed some time had passed before the car was spotted by a passing motorist.

The man, who was from Essex, suffered life-threatening head injuries in the crash and was put into a medically induced coma by Great Western Air Ambulance critical care doctors on the scene, before being taken by Wiltshire Air Ambulance to Bristol’s Frenchay Hospital.

It is believed he received immediate treatment but was still in a serious condition when the Standard went to press.

The A429 Crudwell northbound road was shut in both directions for several hours.

Wiltshire police have appealed for anyone with information to ring PC Peter Williamson of the serious collision investigation team on 101.
