Flood hit pub re-opens for business

A PUB which was hit by flooding three times in the space of a month has re-opened after eight weeks.

The Radnor Arms at Corston had already undergone a £40,000 refit followed by repair work to the roof, when the cellar and bar were inundated at the end of November.

Landlords Andy and Paula Webley were forced to close yet again and spend more than £25,000 raising the cellar floor, tanking the bar area and making good the damage cause by the water.

They were still working as the pub re-opened for business last Wednesday. “It was a tight deadline,” Paula told the Standard.

“Apparently the locals were worried we might give up and not open again. They were really pleased it has all come together. I’m not expecting to be really busy. Hopefully word will get around and we will start to get customers back.”

Due to an operation on his arm, Andy was unable to do any of the DIY. Luckily dad Terry stepped in to help. He and mum Sue came over from their home in Cardiff and worked like Trojans alongside the couple to get the pub shipshape in time.

“We couldn’t have done it without them,” Paula said. “They were here at 1am during the floods, helping us pump out.”

The couple have made the most of the closure to improve the layout slightly and increase the number of covers in the eating area. “But we didn’t want to change too much.”
