CIRENCESTER town councillors have received a slapped wrist for using taxpayers’ money to post their own Christmas cards.
At the end of this month’s public town council meeting, Cllr Margaret Rickman blasted her fellow colleagues for taking advantage of council postal facilities to save a few pounds on postage.
Cllr Rickman said: "Members use the postage system at the town council to post Christmas cards and something should be said about it."
CTC’s chief executive Andrew Tubb apologised for failing to remind councillors that they should not use the council’s system to post Christmas cards to fellow council members. He said that a reminder would go out in future.
After the meeting, he told the Standard that the issue related to a card sent from one councillor to another which was included in an envelope that also contained town council papers.
