Awards are sweet success for Lechlade pub landlord

A PUB landlord has been given double recognition for his contributions to the community at a business awards night.

Bob Warren of the Trout Inn, in Lechalde, has helped raise more than £7,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support and other local causes over the past two years.

On the weekend, his efforts were championed at the Fairford and Lechlade Business Club Awards when he was presented with the special Howard Dowler Award.

The award, which was created in memory of a founder member of the business club who died in 2009, recognises business people who have made an outstanding contribution to the community.

In a surprise move, Macmillan also awarded Bob a certificate on the night for his and his wife Penny’s ongoing fundraising, through selling jam and chutneys for the charity from the Lechlade pub.

Bob said: “It was a big surprise and a great honour. But it’s not just myself doing this, the award reflects on the whole pub and our staff.

He added: “Selling jams and chutney isn’t tough. It’s really down to Philipa Hunter who works hard to make every jar.”
