Council tax to increase in Moreton-in-Marsh

COUNCIL tax bills in Moreton-in-Marsh are set to increase slightly in the coming financial year after the town council voted to increase its precept by £2,694 to £70,130.

The council is also eligible for a £6,105 grant from Cotswold District Council, making its total budget for 2013-14 £76.235.

This means a Band D property will pay an annual total of £49.44, an increase of £4.90 on this year or an extra nine pence a week.

Town council vice-chairman Cllr Rod Hooper said he felt there was little choice but to increase the precept.

“I feel that if we don’t increase it now we may have to ask residents for even more next year or the year after that,” he said.
