Bourton-on-the-Water parish councillors resign

RESIDENTS in Bourton-on-the-Water interested in getting involved with village affairs are invited to put themselves forward for a position on the Parish Council after two members resigned.

The council’s vice-chairman Cllr Richard Johnes resigned from the post he had held since 2008 at a recent meeting as he has moved to Cheltenham.

Cllr Anna MacCurrach – who was co-opted onto the council in 2007 – also stepped down, saying she was no longer able to balance family and work commitments with her duties as a councillor.

Council chairman Cllr Bryan Sumner paid tribute to his colleagues and praised Cllr Johnes for his work organising the village’s diamond jubilee celebrations last year.

“Thank you so much for all your work,” he said. “We wish you all the best.”

He added a new vice-chairman would be appointed at next month’s meeting.

A by-election will be called if it is requested by ten or more electors in the village, otherwise the council will begin a co-option process to recruit two new members.

Cllr Sumner said he hoped the positions would be filled by March’s meeting.

“There are lots of interesting things going on with the community hub and other things so me may get some interest,” he said.

Anyone who would like to apply can contact parish clerk Sue Cretney on 01451 820 712 or by emailing clerk@bourtononthewaterpc.org.uk
