Council tax to increase in Bourton-on-the-Water

PLANS to convert a former hospital in Bourton-on-the-Water into a community hub are set to go ahead thanks to a significant increase in council tax.

Bourton Parish Council has agreed to raise its precept by £14,400 from £89,229 to £103,629 in the coming financial year – an increase of 16 per cent.

The increase – which represents an extra £8.29 a year for a Band D property – will cover the council’s plans to convert the former Moore Cottage Hospital into a community hub.

The plans – including the precept increase – were presented to residents at a packed meeting last month where they won widespread approval.

Parish Council chairman Cllr Bryan Sumner said he was confident villagers would support the move.

Cllr Nigel Randall, who is leading the community centre project, agreed, saying: “It’s the price of one and a half fish and chips a year.”
