CHRISTMAS might be over but pensioners in Fairford and Lechlade did not let that stop them having a festive knees-up last weekend.

Lechlade and District Lions Club – which is celebrating its 35th year in 2013 – threw parties at Fairford’s Palmer Hall and the Memorial Hall in Lechlade earlier this month, which saw 130 pensioners enjoy entertainment including Irish dancing and a live band as well as a buffet lunch.

Every attendee also received a present and any left over were donated to food banks in Cirencester and Swindon.

Lions club president Keith Musson said everyone had enjoyed what had become an annual tradition in both towns.

“It went really well,” he said.

“All the pensioners were taken to and from the halls by members of the Lions and everyone had a really good time.”

The club’s next event will be a fundraising book sale at Lechlade’s Memorial Hall on February 16.
