Anger as police recruitment campaign closes within two hours of launch

A WINDOW of opportunity for Wiltshire Police recruits opened and closed within two hours this week.

The force website was overwhelmed with hopefuls when a pre-assessment tool for candidates went live on Wednesday. More than 283, 800 hits were recorded.

Like almost all counties, Wiltshire has not recruited for two years since the government comprehensive spending review.

Responding to angry criticism on its Facebook page, the force said: “Whilst we understand peoples disappointment in this campaign only being open for a few hours it is a positive message that so many people want to be a Police Officer in Wiltshire and we thank people for their interest.”
