SNOW: Wiltshire hit hard SNOW: Wiltshire hit hard

WILTSHIRE was hit hard by the wintry weather today with roads, public transport, schools and leisure centres shut down.

In Malmesbury community nurses took to Shanks’s Pony to get through to patients. The town's police appealed for drivers to keep off the roads as they struggled to reach incidents all over the area.

Register offices across the county were only open for emergencies, waste and recycling services were suspended and Wiltshire Council’s housing service was operating on a skeleton staff.

Around 200 schools were closed, as were seven leisure centres, although the Activity Zone in Malmesbury remained open.
