Lib Dems take Stratton-Whiteway seat in Cirencester by election
LIBERAL Democrat candidate Mark Harris won with a clear majority at yesterday’s Cirencester Town Council by election.
The former president of Cirencester Chamber of Commerce was elected to represent the Stratton-Whiteway ward with 419 votes out of 632 total votes.
UKIP’s representative Robert Stephens came second with 135 votes and the Green Party’s Robert Irving came in last with 78 votes.
Cirencester Town Council’s election team said they were pleased with the turnout, which represented more than 22 per cent of nearly 3,000 eligible voters.
Mark Harris is the father of Cirencester’s deputy mayor Cllr Joe Harris. He replaces Lib Dem representative Siobhan Brasier, who resigned last year due to university studies.
Mr Harris snr is due to attend the next full town council meeting on Tuesday, January 15.
