Kemble station application refused

PERMISSION to demolish 25 metres of disused platform and create 10 new parking spaces at Kemble Railway Station has been refused.

Cotswold District Council’s planning department refused First Great Western’s application, saying the building was in a good state of repair and the harm to the character of the listed building that would be caused by the demolition was not outweighed by the benefit of the 10 new parking spaces.

It would be a good idea now that the great western mainline is being electrified to look at reopening the Cirencester branch line as far as Chesterton and incorporate a parkway station for the benefit of Cirencester and surrounding areas this would greatly improve and be an asset to the town. This could very easily be incorporated into the electrification plans all of the trackbed is complete only rebuilding the 2 bridges at Kemble this reopening would alleviate the parking problems in Kemble. The scheme could also incorporate a North Swindon Parkway on Purton Road Sparcells.
