Wiltshire Christmas drink driver numbers fall

A TOTAL of 85 motorists were arrested during this December's Wiltshire Police drink drive campaign.

Another 13 were arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of drugs.

The figures released today show almost 2,580 breath tests were given during the month-long campaign over the festive period. The 85 arrested were over the legal limit or failed to provide a test.

“Overall, these figures represent a productive and successful campaign,” Insp Steve Cox said.

He explained the number of collisions reported to police between December 1 and January 1 had fallen by 277 compared to the same time last year. As a result the number of breath tests was reduced by 65.

The number of people who failed or did not provide a test fell by 6.

As well as highlighting the dangers of drunk or drugged driving the campaign involved extra patrols and roadside testing.
